What Do I Want in 2009?

Hello, Weight Watchers! Well, one set of holidays is over (or nearly over, if you're celebrating Kwanzaa). Did our four-way approach to holiday eating help you? If you're happy with your results, make sure to CELEBRATE! If not, try not to negative self-talk, but review the experience to try a different strategy next time.

I'm going to use this opportunity to 'fess up - I overdid it this year. I'm up six pounds from my lowest this month, and I'm not thrilled about it. However, I'm back to journaling and even took advantage of today's beautiful weather to go for a run. My next Winning Outcome is to be able to turn in my weigh-in slip to my manager by January 10.

COOKING UP SUCCESS - FINAL WEEK!
This holiday season, WW is cooking up success for are members! We know that it's challenging to Eat Smarter (one part of the Four-Way Approach!) during this season. We also know that Attending Weekly Meetings (yet another part!) is essential to member success.

Each week Nov 30-Jan 3, members will receive an exclusive holiday recipe in their meeting. In addition, each member will have three chances to enter a drawing for a gift basket filled with Land's End WW logo apron, Measurite set, selection of WW Sides, POINTS food scale, and WW cookbook, worth $100 total! Members receive a ticket to enter in the drawing when you: stay for a meeting, bring a friend who joins, purchase $20 in meeting room products. Plus, receive a BONUS ticket if you attend at least five meetings during the promotion period.

This time, the promotion is for At-Work members, in addition to traditional/traveler meetings - yay! I will also be holding a drawing in each meeting to ensure that each meeting has a big winner - prizes TBA!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Danville members - please note that our meeting will be held on Tuesday 12/30 at 4:30 instead of our usual Wednesday meeting. The meeting will move back to Wednesdays at 4:30 on 1/7.

Is your regular meeting canceled this week or conflicts with your schedule? If you'd still like to attend one of my meetings, I will be subbing Tuesday morning at Bartlett Chapel in Avon.

A New Year is upon us,
Fresh goals are being set;
But doubts and fears still linger
From past ones we haven’t met.

Erase away those doubts and fears
That you will not succeed.
Commitment and positive attitude
are really all you need.

You have it in you to reach your goal
Of that I have no fear.
So “erase” those mistakes and look ahead
To a new beginning for a new year.

Please take this little eraser
To help you create a clean slate.
Wipe away doubts, fears, and failures,
In 2009 you’re going to be FINE!

ARTICLES OF NOTE
At year's end, many people take stock of where they are now, and consider in what direction they would like to travel during the new year. In this week's meeting, we will review the past year with a focus on Learning from Experience. After acknowledging our successes, we will look to the New Year, creating Winning Outcomes that incorporate behaviors and habits that worked, as well as ways we want to behave differently.

Have a great week, everyone! Happy New Year!

Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.

NEW PRODUCTS!
Do you crave banana bread? Now you can have it, in a convenient portion-controlled treat! WW has introduced our newest Just 2 POINTS bar, Banana Nut Bread. It's made with bananas, nuts, and whole grains for a delicious homemade taste. It contains no artificial flavors and is a good source of protein. This could make a great breakfast on the run! Free samples of this new bar will be available in early January. The new bars will come in a box of four for $5.

We would also like to introduce our newest salty snack, Original Multigrain Crisps. They're thin, crispy, baked whole-grain chips with a satisfying crunch. Enjoy them on their own or with your favorite low-fat dip or spread. Free samples of our new crisps will be available in late January. The new crisps will come in a box of six for $4.50.

Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to two snacks to make room for our newest flavors. The Lemon Dream Just 2 POINTS bar and BBQ Pretzel Thins will only be available while supplies last. This is a good time to stock up if they're your favorites!

ARTICLES OF NOTE
Temptations of the holiday season about, and a small slip can be the catalyst for a lapse, relapse, and ultimately, collapse of our weight-loss efforts. Continuing from last week's meeting to explore how to keep up our motivation with the Momentum plan, this week we'll explore how we can use our bodies' signals as tools to stay in control, rely on the FIlling Foods, and trust our habits in challenging times.

Have a great week, everyone!

Potato and Apple Pancakes
Makes 10 servings
POINTS® value: 1

◊1 large Yukon Gold potato, peeled
◊1 medium apple, such as Pink Lady, peeled, cored, quartered
4 tsp dehydrated onion flakes
◊1 large egg, beaten
1/4 tsp table salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
3 sprays cooking spray
◊1/2 cup fat-free sour cream

1. Shred potato and apple into a medium-size bowl using the fine-holes of a box grater or shredder; stir in onion flakes. Press out as much liquid as you can by hand; drain liquid. Set aside mixture for 1 minute and press out liquid again; drain again. Stir in egg, salt, pepper and cinnamon.

2. Coat a very large nonstick skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Drop potato mixture by tablespoonfuls into skillet and flatten each with the back of a spoon to make twenty 2-inch latkes. Leave at least 1 inch between latkes; you will have to do this in batches.

3. Cook latkes until golden on first side, about 3 minutes. Gently flip latkes with a spatula and cook until other side is golden, about 3 to 4 minutes more. Carefully remove latkes to a serving plate; cover to keep warm and repeat with remaining ingredients. Top latkes with sour cream before serving. Yields 2 latkes and 2 1/3 teaspoons of sour cream per serving.

PANIC BUTTON
My regular meeting is closed for the holidays!
Attending your weekly meeting is vital to holiday success (Meetings members lose three times as much weight as those who go it alone!), so use the flexibility of your WW membership to your advantage over the holiday season. All traditional meetings are closed after 1:00pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and all day Christmas and New Year's Day. At-Work meeting schedules are at the company's discretion - please check with your Client Contact for holiday schedule changes.

Traditional meetings members who use prepaid coupons or pay weekly will not be charged for a missed week if your regular meeting is closed and you cannot attend another, but are encouraged to attend another meeting of their choice to receive the valuable tips and support that will help keep their Momentum throughout the holiday season. At-Work members may attend any traditional meeting at any time during the series by showing their membership book or pocket guide as proof of payment. The easiest way to find meeting times and locations is to go to www.weightwatchers.com and enter the ZIP code or city and state where you're looking for a meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Danville members - please note that our meeting will be held on 12/23 and 12/30, both Tuesdays at 4:30 instead of our usual Wednesday meeting. The meeting will move back to Wednesdays at 4:30 on 1/7.

Hertz Indianapolis One members - we have currently collected nine payments for a new 17-week series. We cannot resume meetings unless we have a minimum of 15 paid members for a 4-week bridge series ($48) or a 12-week series ($144), or 20 paid members for a 17-week series ($186). If we renew before Christmas, you will have the opportunity to attend the traditional meeting of your choice the weeks of Christmas and New Year's free! Please contact Rhonda Merritt (rhonda@hertzgroup.com) in Ste 110 if you have not yet signed up for the new series.

ARTICLES OF NOTE
It's not uncommon for seasonal challenges and indulgences to tempt us to give up on weight loss altogether until January. Luckily, we have the new Momentum plan on our side this year. We can insulate ourselves from December setbacks with encouragement from meetings and Moving More. The tips we receive in the new Momentum plan booklets each week can help us keep up the motivation for weight loss throughout the holidays, while still enjoying the spirit of the season.

Speaking of seasonal challenges, this was my kitchen over the weekend. Luckily, most of those have gone to friends and family, but I will admit to eating plenty of cookies. To the gym go I!

Have a great week, everyone! I'll seee you at your meeting!

Pumpkin Pie with Graham Cracker Crust
Makes 8 servings
POINTS® value: 3

3 oz reduced-fat cinnamon graham crackers, about 5 1/2 sheets
1 tbsp packed light brown sugar
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
◊2 large egg whites
◊1 large egg
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 tsp table salt
2 tsp pumpkin pie spice, or less to taste
◊1 cup canned pumpkin
◊1/2 cup fat-free evaporated milk

4 tbsp lite whipped topping

1. Position rack in middle of oven. Preheat oven to 350ºF.

2. Place graham crackers and light brown sugar in a food processor and process into crumbs (or smash into crumbs in a sealed plastic food bag with a rolling pin). Spoon crumbs into a small bowl; add melted butter and combine with fingers into a coarse meal. Distribute crumbs evenly on bottom and up sides of an ungreased 9-inch pie plate. Chill for 30 minutes before baking. Bake until crust starts to turn golden, about 8 to 10 minutes; remove from oven and let cool.

3. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, using an electric mixer, whip egg whites until frothy; fold in egg, dark brown sugar, salt, pumpkin pie spice and evaporated milk. Beat pumpkin custard until smooth and pour into pie shell. Bake until a knife inserted in center comes out clean, about 45 to 55 minutes. Slice into 8 pieces, top each piece with 1/2 tablespoon of whipped topping and serve warm or at room temperature.

Introducing the Momentum Plan

Hello, Weight Watchers! Did you find any creative ways to Move More this week? The snowy weather may have put a slight damper on my outdoor running, but I pulled out a workout DVD that I hadn't done in awhile, and it worked some muscles on which I haven't been focusing. (A gym membership is definitely in my letter to Santa!) Varying your workout is a great way to prevent burnout and keep your calorie burn high!
