Thank you so much for a great Open House meeting! Seven members paid for the new series at the meeting, so we only need eight more payments to guarantee that we will start a new 12-week series on Friday, September 4! Please deliver cash or checks to Maxene Grounds or contact me directly to arrange for credit card payment by Wednesday, September 2. It's also not too late to upgrade to a 17-week series for a cheaper weekly fee and fee eTools - we just need to have 20 members by Week Two of the new series to qualify! On Sunday, August 30, Weight Watchers is kicking off the second annual Lose for Good challenge campaign! For every million pounds Weight Watchers members lose from August 30-October 17, Weight Watchers will donate $250,000 to two hunger-fighting organizations. If you've felt your motivation slipping lately, the chance to help those in need just by losing pounds is a great way to catch up with that wagon!This initiative will not only benefit two national organizations, but you also have the option of making a donation to your local food bank as a way of visualizing your weight loss. Create a "weight-loss monument" of food to donate during the promotion (last year's donations to the Sheltering Wings domestic abuse shelter are pictured at left).
I pledge to donate one can of food for each pound I lost - that's eighty cans of food to help those in need!

North African–Style Burgers
Makes 4 servings (1 garnished burger)
POINTS® value per serving: 5
◊1 pound ground lean beef (93% lean)
◊1 Tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
4 whole-wheat hamburger buns, split
◊4 tomato slices
◊4 sweet onion slices
◊4 green leaf lettuce leaves
1. Combine the beef, tomato paste, cumin, cinnamon, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl. With damp hands, shape the mixture into 4 (1/2-inch-thick) patties.
2. Preheat the grill to medium-high; spray grill rack with nonstick spray. Add the patties and cook until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the side of a burger registers 160°F, about 4 minutes on each side.
3. Put a burger on the bottom half of each bun and top with 1 tomato slice, 1 onion slice, and 1 lettuce leaf. Cover with the tops of the buns.
