An Insider's Guie to Dining Out

If you steal it, reveal it.
If you sneak it, leak it.
If you grab it, blab it.
If you indulge it, divulge it.
If you lick it, bic it.
If you hog it, log it.

Beware of the Chocolate Bunny
He'll soon be hopping your way.
He'll bring a bunch of chocolate goodies
And leave them on Easter day.
Just a little nibble
What could be the harm?
All those tempting sugary treats
Have such a seductive charm.
I'll nip off just a bunny ear
What’s the harm in that?
It's not like I ate the whole darn thing
So....a little won't make me fat.

But look at that cute little tail.
Just another nibble
It won't show up on the scale.
The bunny looks so sad now
Just chocolate body and toes.
If I gobble up the rest of him
I'm safe.....nobody knows.
Easter week is behind me now,
Ate a little beyond my plan.
The ghosts of Easter baskets haunt
As at the scale I stand.
If I gained a little weight this week
It won't be one bit funny.
I should have heeded that sage advice,

Emotional Hunger vs. Physical Hunger

Hello, Weight Watchers! How did you Move More this week? Activity has so many benefits beyond weight loss - lower blood pressure, reduced pressure on joints, elevated mood, lower LDL cholesterol, higher metabolism, just to name a few! I know it can be hard to make the time for activity, but find ways to sneak it in, make YOU a priority, and make it enjoyable!

Dear Diary,
For my 50th birthday, my husband, the dear, purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.

Although I am still in great shape since playing on my high school softball team, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer I'll call Bruce, who identified himself as a 26 year old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started. The club encouraged me to keep this diary to chart my progress...

Monday: Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth the effort when I arrived at the health club and found Bruce waiting for me. He is something of a Greek God! with blonde hair, dancing blue eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!!

Bruce gave me a tour and showed me the machines. He took my pulse after five minutes on the treadmill. He was alarmed that my pulse was so fast, but I attribute it to standing next to him in his Lycra aerobic outfit. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Bruce was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!

Tuesday: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Bruce made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air, then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Bruce's rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!! It's a whole new life for me!!!

Wednesday: The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying on the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or to stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot. Bruce was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered the other club members. His voice is a little too perky for early in the morning and when he scolds he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Bruce put me on the stair monster. Why the heck would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Bruce told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other useless sh** too!

Thursday: Bruce was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being half an hour late, it took me that long to tie my shoes! Bruce took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the men's room. He sent Lars in to find me, then, as punishment, put me on the rowing machine, which I promptly sank!

Friday: I hate that son-of-a b**** Bruce more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic little cheerleader wanna-be! If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it! Bruce wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps!!! And if you don't want dents in the floor don't hand me the %&$#&%&# barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich! (which I am sure you learned in the sadist school you attended and graduated magna cum laude!)

The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach of the choir director?

Saturday: Bruce left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrill voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing him made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the *&$%^$& weather channel!!!

Sunday: I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank God that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun---- like a root canal or hysterectomy.

THE GINGERBREAD MAN

Here's a small reminder gift
When your resistance needs a lift.

Although I'm just a cookie-man

I taste so good when we first meet,

Can lead to eating through the night.

Look at me and take control.
Don't take a bite, just take a stroll.

Hang me right upon your fridge.
And bring that waistline in a smidge.

The season’s long, but we’ll get through it,
I’m just the one to help you do it.

HEALTHY FOR CHEAP TIP OF THE WEEK

You don't have to cook two dinners every day or shop as if you were buying groceries for two different families. It is highly likely that junk food is not healthy for your significant other or children, as well as yourself! Junk food does not enter my house unless my husband buys it himself. A good 90% of the time, it's not worth the bother to him.

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we have long to-do lists: gift-buying, worrying about money, attending social events, cooking, decorating, and dealing with challenging relatives. It's no surprise that we may be tempted to grab that candy at work or have an extra cup of eggnog. This week, we will learn how to manage stress without overeating. We can choose a different path this year - one that is not littered with cookie crumbs!

Have a great week, everyone! I'll see you at your meeting!

Only One Pound

Hello, do you know me?

If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat,

And I'm the HAPPIEST pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

Want to know why?

It's because no one ever wants to lose me;

I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one.

So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.

Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it.

That is, until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound."

(As if that were such a terrible thing.)

For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.

Happy Days!!!

After all, I'm ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello, Weight Watchers!

I'm not leading any meetings this week, so I'm taking a break from the formal blog, however I have some Thanksgiving inspiration to share. :)

Thanksgiving Choices
I could eat everything
I could gobble it down
My pants would get tighter
And I'd wobble around

This year at Thanksgiving
I will do something new
I'll write in my Tracker
And I'll choose Filling Foods too!

I'll enjoy my favorites
But will keep portions small
I'll keep myself busy
When the food cravings call

A day of poor choices?
It's just not worth the cost
And at next week's weigh in
I'll be thankful I lost.

Think - "I am a weight watcher."
Have a vision.
An anchor can keep you on track.
Next week - be sure to weigh in.
Keep an eye on your portions.
Stick to your plan (but first have a plan).
Green is good.
Interrupt food with water.
Vow to make good choices.
Invite someone to take a walk with you.
Navigate the buffet wisely.
Give someone who supports you a word of "Thanks".

Have a great week, everyone!

Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence.
